South East London Family Mediation offers courses for solicitors, other professionals, and mediators. Short courses are delivered via Zoom and last approximately one and a half hours, which includes time for questions. Day courses are available via Zoom or at our office. Below is a list of available courses. In this course, we will find out what a MIAM is for, how it works and what the attendee can expect. We will also go through what happens after a MIAM has taken place and how someone can prove that the MIAM has happened.

In this course, we will go through which Court Application Forms need to be signed by a Mediator and how and when they can be signed.

G03Child-Inclusive Mediation
In this course, we will discuss what Child-inclusive mediation is and how it works, as well as how it can help the families. We will also find out when it’s not appropriate.

G04When the Child says No
In the course, we will discuss how to approach those difficult cases where an older child seems to refuse spending time with one of their parents. We will explores the myriad of reasons why this might happen and how the situation could be approached in mediation to try and find a way forward.

G05Grandparents in Mediation
In this course, we will discuss situations where Grandparents need help with arrangements for their grandchildren. We will examine what the Law says and how the Courts tend to deal with these issues and then look at how mediation might help.

G06Mediation and Domestic Abuse
In this course, we will look at the different types of Domestic abuse and how to ask the right questions when talking to a client to get all of the information you need to make an assessment. We will then look at if and how mediation could proceed within a domestic abuse context in a safe way and what alternatives are open to clients where mediation can’t safely proceed.

In this course, we will discuss what Financial Disclosure is and when it is needed. We will explore how to introduce the topic to clients and the various stages of the process in mediation. We will look at how to approach exchanging documentary evidence, how to draft an Open Financial Statement and how to deal with tricky issues around disclosure confidently.

In this course we will discuss why businesses form part of financial settlement and the different types of business you might encounter. We will tackle the thorny issue of how a business might be valued and how to approach it of parties are not on the same page with a valuation.

In this course you can find out who might be eligible for legal aid, how to carry out a legal aid assessment and how to draft documents and close cases to ensure compliance with the requirements of the legal aid contract. This course will be delivered via Zoom on 25th March and in person in our offices in Bromley on 3rd June.
